Patent Searching: Tutorial Reference Site

The McKinney Engineering Library at the University of Texas (Austin) has a really nice and informative tutorial on patent searching available here.
Why Perform a Patent Search?
The reasons for performing a patent search are many. The most obvious is to determine whether or not you can get a patent or if your invention has already been patented. Other reasons include:
getting a general idea of how an application and patent is structured to help in the preparation or your own application
learning more about a new field
for market information
competitor tracking
technology tracking
In addition to the patent searching tutorial, the library also offers several other reference pages on patents and trademarks. Good site to bookmark for inventors and a great resource for IP attorneys to share with their clients.
